The Advertising Standards Authority said the ad for the DVD version of Universal Pictures' 2008 action flick "Wanted" breached ad codes and should not be broadcast.
The film follows the initiation of an office drudge Wesley Gibson (played by James McAvoy ) into a mythical group of super-powered assassins. The ad for the DVD release shows McAvoy and co-star Jolie wielding pistols, a shotgun, and generally spraying scene after scene with bullets.
The authority said the ad -- which juxtaposes images of gun violence with Jolie showing off her bare back -- "could be seen to condone violence by glorifying or glamorizing the use of guns."
It was unclear what practical effect, if any, the ruling would have. The "Wanted" DVD was released in Britain nearly six months ago.
The advertising authority has no power to enforce its writ, but it can refer advertisers to Britain's Office of Fair Trading for legal action.
Universal did not immediately return an e-mail Wednesday seeking reaction to the authority's ruling.
The ruling underlined Britain's sensitivity to gun crime.
There were 59 firearm-related homicides in England and Wales in 2006-2007, compared to the more than 10,000 gun-related killings reported by the FBI in the United States in 2007.
But public concern was heightened in Britain after the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in 2007. The murder drew national attention and prompted much soul-searching over whether the country's already strict gun control laws were tough enough.

HER BIOGRAPHY
Angelina Jolie was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles. Estranged from her father, actor Jon Voight, since she was a baby, Angelina was raised by her mother, Marcheline Bertrand and older brother. She began to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York City when she was 11. Five years later, Angelina moved out on her own and worked as a professional model. She appeared in music videos for The Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz and Meat Loaf.
As the acting bug continued to bite, Angelina moved back to Los Angeles and took parts in several student films directed by her brother, James Haven, who was attending the University of Southern California film school. During this time, Angelina joined the Met Theater and performed alongside fellow members and future stars Ed Harris and Holly Hunter.
Angelina's first starring role came in the 1995 cyber-thriller, Hackers. Praised for her performance in the film, Angelina also met her first husband on the set, co-star Johnny Lee Miller. The two were married in March, 1996, separated less than a year later and officially divorced in 1999. By 2000, Angelina had married another actor, Billy Bob Thornton, and earned an Oscar for her work in Girl, Interrupted. Currently, Angelina is divorced from Thornton and raising her adopted baby, Maddox, on her own.

Hot Interview reply's Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
IGN Film Force braves paparazzi and high security to talk to the Smiths.
by Jeff Otto
June 9, 2005 - I've interviewed big stars before. Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and even most of the cast of Ocean's 12. I've also interviewed Jolie a few times before. Apparently, nothing draws out the paparazzi, the high security, and the nervous, walking-on-eggshells publicists as much as two major stars appearing in one place shortly after a tabloid-fueled rumor scandal. IGN FilmForce was among a very select group of domestic journalists admitted to a press event earlier this week for Mr. and Mrs. Smith at the high class Shutters hotel on the beach in Santa Monica. The hotel is, in fact, just down the street from my apartment, so for once I got to enjoy the luxury of simply walking down the street for the interview. As I neared the hotel, I begin to notice something was a little different. Blocks from the hotel, paparazzi were ready and armed with large cameras weighted down by even larger telephoto lenses and their trademark photographer vests, pockets busting at the seems with more film, different lenses, filters and probably little room left over for the wads of cash they will likely receive for a candid picture of Ms. Jolie, Mr. Pitt or the holy grail – a picture of them together. Personally, I don't care about the gossip. Lucky for me, FilmForce doesn't care about that kind of stuff and, unlike most of the international press attending the interview, I actually only came to talk about the movie. Arriving at the hotel, fancy cars were pulling up in droves. Limos with darkened windows waited on the outskirts of the parking lot. Though I expected to be stopped immediately and asked my intentions upon entering the hotel, no one said a word. I walked right in and headed downstairs to the conference room where the interview was to happen. There, I found the measures I was expecting: A huge line of journalists waiting to enter the room. The line moved at a crawl. Nearly an hour passed before I finally arrived at the press check-in table. The hold-up was resulting from a pair of "agreements" from Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt's publicity teams, which essentially stated that we were not allowed to ask personal questions and that, should we choose to do so, the actors may end the interview, our tapes would be confiscated and we would be sentenced to 20 years in prison. Okay, I made that last one up.- 20th Century Fox
So after an hour-long line and a 30-minute wait, the interview finally began a scant one hour and six minutes after its scheduled start time. Considering the general rule of "Hollywood time" and the surrounding chaos, that actually wasn't too bad.
Q: What attributes do you think you have to defend yourself in an attack if you were an assassin? BRAD PITT: Well, again the assassin thing is secondary to me, because the movie plays so much more on the level of relationships and that was sort of just the backdrop or a metaphor or I can't think of the word. But, having said that. She's a damn good shot. I'm a damn good shot as well. ANGELINA JOLIE: I'd say the same. What makes a good assassin? Should I know the answer to that? Obviously, it's a film and it's our metaphor for marriage and it's kind of wild, crazy one, but I think it's a good one. And I think what makes a good assassin, I don't know. But at the end of the day it is interesting to see two people have to learn how to be a team. And I think that's the interesting thing about the film. We are both very good with weapons.PITT: And also the idea about assassins, it's sort of an 80's concept about film. In this thing, it's kind of the thing we'd use for a husband and wife who wanted to literally kill each other. So instead of killing themselves with words or psychologically, this time we're gonna literally put a gun in their hands.Q: Brad, how did you feel fighting a woman? PITT: I felt good. I felt very good. [laughs] I took some shots… But again, the thing is not to be taken literally. We could go as far as we wanted to go and it's definitely one of the best sequences of the film. It became representative of how we take each other out in some form or another.
